I've noticed that most of these films manipulate the timeline, and play with our minds by showing different perspectives and moments in time. It leaves it up to the audience to link the pieces together and come to a conclusion. Differences definitely include the use of the timeline, because not every movie uses past to present, many films of this type use present to past as well.
