Gangster Genre

The Gangster Genre includes the grip of power, and the use of that power to influence others around the individual who holds all of it. Gangsters also seem to bring a sense of glamorization in a weird way. The way they are portrayed makes it seem like they are of more importance to the community and society than the law makes them out to be. Over the years it seems to have gone more in depth into individualism and the struggles of a certain character or certain couple of characters. For example Pulp Fiction takes two men on a journey filled with ludacris and violent happenings in order to find Marcellece Walluce. Or however you spell his name.

Angels with Dirty Faces/ Hay's Code

I believe Angel's with Dirty Faces breaks the Hay's code policies. I say this because both the criminal and the good intentions protagonist are criminals. Justice is in fact being served but who deserves the punishment? Also it follows the Hay's Code in that there is not explicit romance. There is in fact some subtle romance between Rocky and the female character who slapped him earlier in his life.

Gangster Movies

Gangster movies obviously share a common theme known as organized crime. They all have the nice dressed men ready to kill without moral hesitation. They also have a common goal which is to receive money or power of some sort

Genre Podcast Reflection

Sci-fi and Fantasy: Sci-fi= futuristic
Fantasy= alternate reality/not futuristic
Both: Epic Proportions
Massacre theatre= The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Comedy: many sub-genres of Comedy, always fresh (no re-hashed ideas)

Dark Comedies: Comedy with dark elements i.e (zombies/death)
Zombieland: Dark with Bill Murray scene (he gets shot)
Massacre Theatre = The Big Lebowski

Disney: Disney movies contain the well known and beloved element of the beautiful princess whether it be a a girl from a high or low class, she is still seen as a symbol of beauty. Also there are musicals. Every princess has to have a good voice, or she is obviously not a real princess *sarcasm cough*.

Musicals

Many of the musicals I've seen were from the creators of South Park Matt Stone & Trey Parker. Most of the musicals i've heard from them contain upbeat music, and an optimistic tone. I would also like to see Matt & Trey's new Broadway project The Book of Mormon which is also a comedy musical. The Book of Mormon isn't a movie, but I figure Broadway is still visual entertainment.

(Although labeled a comedy, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was intended to be a musical and still contains many musical elements)

Female Characters in Hawks

Hard to get
pretend not to love main character to lure them into their grasp
very confused on whether the main character like them or not rather than the defined male role
